Customs and Excise - A Brief

|
- Visitors from Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU) countries are exempt from paying import customs

etc. are free of duty for visitors to Namibia. All visitors are allowed
duty free per person:
(1)(1.1) Wine, not exceeding 2
litres
(1)(1.2) Spirituous and other alcoholic beverages,
a total quantity not exceeding 1 litter
(1)(1.3) Manufactured tobacco, not exceeding 400

receiving sets) of a total value not exceeding N$ 1250 per person.
(3) Additional goods, new or used, of a total
value not exceeding N$10,000 per person (excluding goods of a class or
kind specified in sub-items (1.1) to (1.4), inclusive, of this item).
On the whole, if stopped
you'll find the Namibia Customs officers courteous and quite
diligent, but be warned, should you be found to be in possession of
contraband you will witness an efficiency that will see the law
exacted to its utmost. If you have anything to declare - do so. If
there's duty to pay, pay up. It will prove to be less of an
inconvenience and much cheaper than the alternative. There is a
separate counter where outgoing tourists can make their
VAT
reclaims.
